Ecstatic Dance is a freeform movement journey, intended to be held in a safe and sacred container & facilitated by a professional DJ set. It’s a place where we can be our unique selves, and also connected to a common source. Ecstatic Dance combines the Freedom of a DJ'd Festival Experience with the Awareness of a Conscious Dance Practice.
Most sets will include a variety of musical genres, sonic wave of all tempos, and a full spectrum of emotions. At some dances you will find the vibe to be more organic and tribal, and at others more electronic, futuristic, or urban. No set is ever the same!
In dedication to creating a safe container for your experience we invite you to follow three main guidelines: no shoes (orthopedic shoes or walking aids are ok (and wear comfy clothes!), no booze (or any other drugs), no talking (body language only!). All freedom of expression is welcomed, and there is no ‘right and wrong’ here. Trust in the journey and move through everything that arises.
Dance includes:
- Opening Circle
- A guided warm-up activity
- A 1.5 hour Ecstatic Dance
- A wind-down period (such as Sound Healing or Meditation)
- A Closing Circle
We encourage you to be there on time for warm up circle especially if you have not been to ecstatic dance before. You are welcome to participate and dance and you are also welcome to take time to rest when you need to.
The Ecstatic Dance community welcomes people of all ages/genders/religions/ethnicities. This is a cross-generational community. We are a non-denominational community, where we come together for the joy of moving and dancing together. Whatever your reason for wanting to move, you are welcome at Ecstatic Dance.
Dress to sweat! We recommend you wear clothes that allow your full range of motion. Always bring a water bottle, and make sure to stay hydrated through the dance! Water is provided for free, as well as a few snacks. Most importantly: bring an open mind, a curious spirit, and a body ready to dance!
